Rays 6, Yankees 5
Sam Fuld and B.J. Upton each belted two-run homers in the sixth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays came from behind Monday night for a 6-5 win over the visiting New York Yankees, who have lost six straight.
Fuld cut the lead to 5-3 with his second of the season, Matt Joyce singled home a run and Upton capped the rally with his sixth of the season off Yankees starter and loser A.J. Burnett (4-3).
The Rays (24-17) had not scored more than five runs in their first 22 games of the season at Tropicana Field. Juan Cruz (2-0) got the win in relief and Kyle Farnsworth earned his eighth save. Rays relievers allowed just one hit in four innings.
Eduardo Nunez had a two-run single in the second and Curtis Granderson hit a three-run homer - his 14th - in the fifth inning to give the Yankees (20-19) a 5-1 lead off Tampa Bay ace David Price.
Price allowed five runs on six hits in five innings. Granderson’s home run was the second by a lefthanded hitter against Price in his major league career. The first was by Chase Utley of Philadelphia, June 23, 2009.
Burnett was charged with six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
