Rays 5, Yankees 1

David Price pitched eight innings of one-run ball and the Tampa Bay Rays launched five solo home runs off ace CC Sabathia in a 5-1 victory over the host New York Yankees on Friday night.

Price (10-10) snapped a personal three-game losing streak, allowing six hits and riding Tampa Bay's long-ball assault to his first win since July 15.

Casey Kotchman and Kelly Shoppach opened the third inning with back-to-back homers to help spark the Rays to their fifth consecutive victory.

Johnny Damon also went deep in the third and Elliot Johnson and Evan Longoria added blasts to deny Sabathia (16-7) in his bid to join Detroit's Justin Verlander for the major league lead with 17 wins.

The career-high five homers allowed sent Sabathia to back-to-back losses for the first time since July 27-Aug. 1, 2010. He had allowed only eight homers in 25 starts this season.

Longoria has four homers and 12 RBIs during a nine-game hitting streak.

The Yankees fell two games behind Boston in the American League East.
