Rays 3, Yankees 2
Johnny Damon's sacrifice fly scored Sean Rodriguez in the seventh inning to lift the host Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Reid Brignac had an RBI single in the fifth for Tampa Bay, which snapped a three-game losing skid with its fourth win in 11 outings.
With the Yankees nursing a 2-1 lead in the seventh, the Rays' Elliot Johnson bounced Boone Logan's offering back up the box, but the ball caromed off the pitcher's glove to disrupt a potential inning-ending double play. Robinson Chirinos scored on the play to tie the game.
Damon followed with a lazy fly ball to center field, but Curtis Granderson's throw home was off the mark.
Rookie Jeremy Hellickson (9-7) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings to collect his second straight win after a four-game skid. Jake McGee bridged the gap to Joel Peralta, who retired the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.
Robinson Cano belted a two-run homer and Brett Gardner extended his hitting streak to seven games for New York, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
Bartolo Colon (6-6) suffered his third straight loss. He allowed three runs on five hits and struck out a season-high nine in 6 1/3 innings.
