Tigers 10, Indians 1
Brandon Inge, playing in his first major league game in over a month, homered and drove in two runs to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 10-1 win over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Saturday night.
The victory pushed Detroit's lead over Cleveland to 3 1/2 games atop the American League Central. The Tigers will go for a sweep of the three-game series on Sunday.
Doug Fister (5-13) allowed one run in seven innings and improved to 2-1 in four starts with Detroit.
David Huff (1-2) allowed five runs in 2 1/3 innings. Miguel Cabrera's RBI single and Victor Martinez's sacrifice fly gave Detroit a 2-0 lead in the first.
Inge, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo after Friday's game, led off the second with his second home run of the season. He drove in another run in the third with a ground-rule double.
The 11-year veteran was designated for assignment last month and sent to Toledo after clearing waivers. He was batting .177 going into the game and hadn’t play since July 19.
Shin-Soo Choo homered in the third for Cleveland's only run. Cleanup hitter Travis Hafner was hitless in two at-bats and is in an 0-for-13 slump.
Ramon Santiago had two RBIs for Detroit. Austin Jackson, Magglio Ordonez and Don Kelly also drove in runs.
