Nationals 7, Braves 6
Laynce Nix and Jayson Werth each hit two-out three-run homers and Washington hung on to beat Atlanta 7-6 Tuesday at Turner Field.
Nix blasted his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning after the normally sure-fielding Braves made back-to-back errors that enabled him to come to the plate. Werth added his fifth homer in the fifth inning to seemingly put the game out of reach.
Atlanta fought back to make it close with five runs in the ninth inning. Dan Uggla delivered the big blow a three-run homer off reliever Tyler Clippard, his sixth of the season.
Washington starter Jason Marquis (4-1) allowed seven hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings before tiring and giving way to the bullpen. Drew Storen pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his eighth save.
Marquis outpitched Atlanta’s Tim Hudson (4-3), who gave up seven runs (three earned) in five innings. Hudson, who pitched a one-hitter in his last outing, saw his career record against Washington fall to 11-3.
