Marlins 5, Nationals 2

Mike Stanton homered for the fourth time in six games and Emilio Bonifacio extended his hitting streak to 26 contests with an RBI single as the visiting Florida Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 5-2 victory on Thursday.

With Florida nursing a 2-1 lead, Stanton led off the sixth inning with his career-best 24th homer of the season. Five batters later, Bonifacio blooped a shallow single to center to plate Brett Hayes.

Brian Sanchez (4-1) relieved an ineffective Brad Hand to toss 1 1/3 scoreless innings as the Marlins won their fifth in a row.

Ryan Zimmerman collected four hits for the second straight game and Jayson Werth had a pair of RBI singles for Washington, which fell for the 12th time in 16 contests.

John Lannan (7-7) dropped to 2-4 in his career against the Marlins after permitting four runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings.
