Dodgers 2, Padres 2 (suspended)
After four separate rain delays, umpires suspended Friday’s game between the San Diego Padres and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers with the score 2-2 in the top of ninth inning.
The game will resume Saturday at 8:35 p.m. ET, prior to the teams’ regularly scheduled contest. Matt Kemp, who singled off Heath Bell to lead off the ninth, will be at first base when the game resumes. Friday’s game was finally suspended at 4:40 a.m. ET with only a few hundred fans remaining.
After rain pushed Friday’s start time back 28 minutes, there was a 94-minute delay before the first inning. San Diego starter Clayton Richard was replaced by Cory Luebke, while Los Angeles’ Ted Lilly continued and finished with two runs allowed in 4 1/3 innings.
Los Angeles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Casey Blake scored on an errant throw by catcher Nick Hundley. San Diego answered in the fifth with two runs after Will Venable’s single opened the inning. Orlando Hudson’s single scored Venable, and Ryan Ludwick’s groundout scored the Padres’ second run.
Just before the third rain delay of 67 minutes, Los Angeles tied the score in the sixth on Kemp's RBI single.
