Giants 3, Diamondbacks 2

Matt Cain struck out seven over 7 2/3 innings, and the San Francisco Giants completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks with a 3-2 win Thursday.

Cain (3-2) allowed two runs on seven hits for the Giants, who won their sixth straight. Javier Lopez struck out Gerardo Parra with two on in the ninth for his first save in place of Brian Wilson, who had the day off after pitching in five games over the past six days.

Nate Schierholtz went 3-for-4 and knocked in the Giants’ first run with a second-inning single off Daniel Hudson (3-5), who gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out five over 6 2/3 innings.

In the top of third, Schierholtz made a perfect throw from right field to cut down Parra, who was trying to stretch his two-out single into a double.

The Giants got a scare in the bottom of the seventh when Cain was hit on his pitching hand while squaring to bunt. Cain stayed in the game and laid down a successful bunt to advance Eli Whiteside, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Andres Torres and Aubrey Huff followed Cain’s bunt with run-scoring doubles to force Hudson out of the game.

Cain retired the first two batters in the eighth before Arizona scored two runs on four consecutive two-out singles off Cain and two Giants relievers.
