Marlins 6, Mets 5: Greg Dobbs singled home Emilio Bonifacio to cap a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, sending Florida to its ninth victory in 10 games and ending New York’s five-game winning streak.
Dobbs delivered a looping single to right field off New York closer Frank Francisco (1-2), easily scoring the speedy Bonifacio.
Miami led 3-0 early, fell behind 5-3 in the eighth, then pulled within 5-4 in the eighth on Omar Infante’s double.
Francisco gave up a double to Giancarlo Stanton to lead off the ninth. After Gaby Sanchez advanced Stanton on a sacrifice fly, Bonifacio singled through a drawn-in infield to tie the score at 5-5.
Bonifacio stole his 17th base of the season to move into scoring position. John Buck struck out to set the stage for Dobbs' heroics.
Heath Bell (1-3), recently demoted as Miami’s closer, got the victory.
Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth, New York tied the game on Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ double to right, scoring David Wright. Mike Baxter followed with the go-ahead double off Edward Mujica, giving the Mets a 5-3 advantage.
The Marlins jumped on New York starter Johan Santana in the first, scoring three times. Austin Kearns delivered the big hit, a two-run homer to left to put Miami ahead 3-0.
Santana settled down after that, shutting out the Marlins the next five innings. The lefthander gave up six hits in six innings, with no walks and seven strikeouts.
The Mets started their comeback in the fifth.
Ike Davis hit a one-out solo homer to right off Miami starter Mark Buehrle to make it 3-1. In the seventh, Ronny Cedeno singled with one out. Mike Nickeas doubled to left-center, scoring Cedeno and bringing New York within 3-2.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Buehrle pitched well, allowing eight hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings. … Wright finished 3-for-5, raising his average to .387. … The Marlins improved to 7-5 at the brand new Marlins Park.
