Marlins at Mets

The New York Mets spoiled Jose Reyes' return to Citi Field by keeping the speedster off the bases in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins. Manager Terry Collins' club will look for similar results when the National League East rivals play the second of their three-game set on Wednesday.

Signed to a six-year, $106 million deal in the offseason, Reyes received a mixed reaction as he approached home plate to start Tuesday's game. Reyes, who went 0-for-4, is the Mets' all-time leader in runs, stolen bases and triples.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins LH Mark Buehrle (1-2, 2.66 ERA) vs. Mets RH R.A. Dickey (2-1, 5.71 ERA)

After being presented with just five total runs of support in his first trips to the mound, Miami presented Buehrle with nine last Wednesday. It was clearly more than enough for Buehrle, who allowed one run on six hits in eight innings in a 9-1 win over the Chicago Cubs. The 33-year-old Buehrle will make his first career appearance versus the Mets.

Dickey was brilliant in his first two starts. As for his last outing, well, not so much. The veteran yielded eight runs on as many hits in 4 1/3 innings in a 14-6 drubbing by the Atlanta Braves last Wednesday. Dickey was dazzling in his last meeting with the Marlins, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 win on Sept. 7, 2011.

WALK-OFFS

1. With his next RBI, David Wright will move past Darryl Strawberry to become the Mets' franchise leader in that department. Wright had a chance to claim the record for himself on Tuesday, but he struck out on three pitches with a runner on third in the eighth inning.

2. Miami's Hanley Ramirez is 6-for-15 and Gaby Sanchez is 5-for-15 in his career versus Dickey. Both Marlins have three doubles apiece against the knuckleballer.

3. With Mets outfielder Jason Bay being placed on the disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of a rib, Mike Baxter got the start in left field on Tuesday. Baxter's throw to cutoff man Ruben Tejada was wide of the mark during the seventh inning, while ultimately played a role in the Marlins recording their lone run on Tuesday.
