Indians 10, Tigers 3

Rookie Jason Kipnis went 5-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and Ubaldo Jimenez worked eight innings for his first American League win as the Cleveland Indians hammered the visiting Detroit Tigers 10-3 on Wednesday evening.

Jimenez (1-0), making his second start since being acquired in a trade with Colorado, struck out six while yielding three runs on six hits to help the Indians pull within two games of division-leading Detroit in the AL Central.

A two-run blast by Kipnis – his sixth homer in 16 games – in the second inning stretched the Indians' lead to 4-0.

The Tigers cut the margin to one in the top of the fourth, but Cleveland broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the inning against Rick Porcello (11-7) to send Detroit to its third straight loss.

Kipnis, who also scored four runs, and Asdrubal Cabrera each singled home a run and Kosuke Fukudome's RBI double capped the frame.

Porcello was tagged for eight runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
