Tigers 5, Indians 4
Jhonny Peralta hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and Miguel Cabrera wrapped up the American League batting title as the Detroit Tigers closed out the regular season with a 5-4 victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
Victor Martinez added three hits and an RBI for the Tigers (95-67), who will meet the New York Yankees in an AL Division Series beginning Friday.
The Texas Rangers (96-66) earned the No. 2 seed and home-field advantage in the first round with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.
The Indians (80-82) squandered a 3-0 lead Wednesday and dropped their final four games to finish with a losing record for the third straight season. Cleveland was as many as 15 games above .500 in May.
Cabrera went 2-for-4 to finish with a major league-leading .344 average.
After the Tigers came back to take a lead in the seventh, the Indians knotted it in the eighth with a sacrifice fly. But Peralta took Vinnie Pestano (1-2) out to left for his 21st homer in the bottom half.
Ryan Perry (2-0) got the win and Jose Valverde finished a perfect regular season with his 49th save in as many opportunities.
