Lucas Duda plated Kirk Nieuwenhuis with an RBI single to snap a tie in the eighth inning as New York topped Miami in Jose Reyes' return to Citi Field.
After leveling the contest with four consecutive two-out walks off four different Marlins pitchers in the seventh inning, the Mets scratched for the eventual winner in the eighth.
Nieuwenhuis singled to lead off the frame and advanced to third on Daniel Murphy's single to right field. After David Wright struck out, Duda lined a shot off the throwing hand of pitcher Edward Mujica (0-2) to plate Nieuwenhuis.
After starter Johan Santana recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts through 6 2/3 innings, Jon Rauch (3-0) tossed one scoreless frame to pick up the win. Frank Francisco retired the side in the ninth to secure his fourth save.
Signed to a six-year, $106 million deal in the offseason, Reyes received a mixed reception as he approached home plate to start the game. Reyes, who went 0-for-4, is the Mets' all-time leader in runs, stolen bases and triples.
Gaby Sanchez plated Giancarlo Stanton with an RBI double in the seventh for the Marlins, who have lost three in a row overall and five straight on the road.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Marlins ace Josh Johnson allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts, but did not record a decision ... Santana recorded his 50th career double-digit strikeout game ... Prior to the game, the Mets placed outfielder Jason Bay and right-hander Mike Pelfrey on the 15-day disabled list. Bay suffered a non-displaced fracture of a rib on his left side while Pelfrey was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation ... New York's Zach Lutz, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo prior to the game, struck out with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
