Rockies 7, Dodgers 5
Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer and Melvin Mora drove in a pair to lead the Colorado Rockies past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-5, on Friday.
Todd Helton added three hits and an RBI and Seth Smith drove in a run for the Rockies, who moved to within 1 ½ games of the San Francisco Giants at the top of the National League West.
With both the San Diego Padres and the Giants losing on Friday, Colorado seized its opportunity to gain ground in the division early when Tulowitzki belted his 24th homer in the first. The Dodgers responded with two runs in the second, but the Rockies hit right back with a rally in the fourth.
Mora sparked the three-run frame with an RBI single and Smith and Miguel Olivo each followed with RBI singles off their own off Hiroki Kuroda (10-13) to surge to a 5-2 lead.
Los Angeles grabbed single runs off Ubaldo Jiminez (19-6) in the fourth and fifth but Helton and Mora each drove in runs for the Rockies in the seventh to put it away.
Three relievers bridged the gap to Huston Street, who allowed a run in the ninth but struck out Matt Kemp with two on to finish it off for his 20th save.
