Dodgers 9, Rockies 7
Rafael Furcal hit two RBI triples and Matt Kemp added a two-run homer as the Los Angeles Dodgers dashed the playoff hopes of the Colorado Rockies with a 9-7 victory on Tuesday.
Carlos Gonzalez drove in two runs while Todd Helton and Dexter Fowler each hit two-run homers for the Rockies, who were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention with the loss.
Furcal tripled in his first run and Kemp and Casey Blake each homered during a five-run third that gave the Dodgers a 5-1 lead.
It was 6-2 after James Loney’s solo blast before Colorado stormed back, pulling even when Helton and Fowler both hit two-run homers in the bottom of the seventh.
But Furcal was at it again right away, sending another triple to deep center off former Dodger Octavio Dotel (3-4) in the eighth to plate a run and coming in on Andre Ethier’s sacrifice fly to push it back to 8-6.
Colorado looked like it had a chance in the eighth when Jonathan Broxton loaded the bases and Kenley Jansen came on to walk in a run, but Jansen recovered to strike out Ryan Spilborghs and end the threat.
Jansen worked the ninth to pick up his third save and Ronald Belisario (3-1) got two outs in the seventh to get credit for the win.
