Dodgers 3, Rockies 1
Ted Lilly outdueled Ubaldo Jimenez and Casey Blake drove in a pair as the Los Angeles Dodgers put a dent in the Colorado Rockies’ playoff hopes with a 3-1 victory on Monday.
Rafael Furcal and Ryan Theriot each scored a run for the Dodgers, who have won just seven times in September.
Lilly (9-12) entered the contest 0-4 with a 6.91 ERA over his last five starts but quickly showed that he was in control on Monday. The veteran left-hander did not allow a hit through the first 3 1/3 frames and lasted eight innings, surrendering one run and four hits while striking out eight and walking two.
Jimenez (19-8) was almost as sharp except for the first inning, when he yielded a single to Furcal and walked two before Blake sent a single into center to score two runs. Jimenez allowed just one more hit the rest of the way, going seven innings while striking out six and walking four.
Blake doubled in the ninth and came in on A.J. Ellis’ single to provide some insurance for closer Hong-Chih Kuo, who worked a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
