Rays 3, Blue Jays 2
B.J. Upton belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays welcomed back Evan Longoria with a 3-2 home triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Trailing 2-1 in the ninth, Ben Zobrist led off the frame with a single off closer Jon Rauch (1-2). Upton then stepped to the plate and blasted a shot to deep left-center to end the game.
Kyle Farnsworth (2-0) was credited with the win after permitting one hit in one-third of an inning.
After being sidelined since April 2 with a strained left oblique, Longoria returned to the lineup and went 1-for-4.
Kelly Shoppach plated Sean Rodriguez with an RBI single in the second for Tampa Bay, which spoiled Jo-Jo Reyes' night. The hurler was in line to record his first victory since June 18, 2008 - a span of 24 starts - after tossing six strong innings.
Adam Lind had an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He also scored on Juan Encarnacion's double in the fourth inning for Toronto, which fell to 4-4 on its current 10-game road trip.
