Rangers 2, Tigers 0
Alexi Ogando pitched seven shutout innings as the visiting Texas Rangers stayed hot with a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.
Michael Young and Mitch Moreland had RBI doubles in the seventh inning for the Rangers (9-1), who equaled the best 10-game start in franchise history (1989).
Ogando (2-0), who has not allowed a run in 13 innings this season, gave up two hits, one walk and struck out four. Neftali Feliz earned his fourth save.
Justin Verlander (1-1) pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and two runs, striking out four. Miguel Cabrera had two hits for the Tigers (3-7), who have lost four of five.
Verlander limited Texas to just one hit over the first six innings, but the Rangers got to him in the seventh. Josh Hamilton walked with one out and moved to second on Adrian Beltre’s single. Young’s double knocked in Hamilton and, after a fielder’s choice, Moreland’s double scored Young for a 2-0 lead.
Detroit had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the fourth after Cabrera’s double. But Cabrera was doubled off second after Victor Martinez lined out to shortstop.
