Tigers 13, Rangers 7
Brennan Boesch set career highs with five hits, two homers and five RBIs as Detroit slugged its way to a 13-7 victory at Texas on Monday night, snapping the Rangers' five-game winning streak.
Boesch began the onslaught with a three-run homer in the first inning against Colby Lewis (5-6), then added a solo shot leading off the third. Andy Dirks and Alex Avila added third-inning home runs to make it a 7-0 game, and the Tigers, who finished the night with 18 hits, chased Lewis with two more runs in the fourth.
Nelson Cruz did his best to keep the Rangers within striking distance, hitting two-run homers in the fourth and eighth innings, but Texas never got closer than four runs. Boesch picked up his final RBI of the night with a sixth-inning double off Michael Kirkman, and pinch hitter Danny Worth drove in three runs late, including two on a double in the ninth.
Detroit starter Max Scherzer (7-2) worked five innings for the win, giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out four. Lewis allowed nine runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings for the Rangers.
