Rangers 7, Tigers 3
Texas turned a key Detroit error into a four-run third inning and Alexi Ogando improved his record to 7-0 as the Rangers avoided a sweep with a 7-3 victory Wednesday night in Arlington.
Third baseman Don Kelly's first-inning home run gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but he gave that advantage away in the third with a throwing error that allowed the Rangers' first two runs to score. Josh Hamilton added a two-run double later in the frame to give Texas a 4-1 cushion against Phil Coke (1-6).
That was enough help for Ogando, who allowed one run on six hits over 7 2/3 innings, walking two while striking out seven.
Adrian Beltre padded the Rangers' lead with an RBI single in the fifth inning and a solo home run in the seventh before Detroit closed the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Coke gave up four earned runs on 10 hits and three walks in five innings for the Tigers, who came into the night having won four straight and eight of their last nine.
