Tigers 5, Rangers 4

Miguel Cabrera singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon Inge led off the winning rally with a single and was sacrificed to second. After another out and two walks, Cabrera delivered his second hit of the game to end it. Ryan Raburn had two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run for the Tigers (4-7), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Closer Jose Valverde (1-0) pitched the ninth to get the victory.

Michael Young had three hits, an RBI and scored twice for Texas (9-2). Young came home on a Nelson Cruz two-out, RBI single that tied the game 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning. Reliever Darren O’Day (0-1) took the loss for the Rangers.

Josh Hamilton, the designated hitter for the Rangers Tuesday, tripled in a run in the first inning and left the game later with a strained right shoulder.

Detroit starter Brad Penny allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Texas starter C.J. Wilson gave up four runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. Wilson struck out four and Penny two.
