Nate Schierholtz had three hits and drove in the tiebreaking run during San Francisco’s five-run fifth inning as the Giants posted a 6-3 victory over the host Chicago Cubs on Tuesday for a sweep of their day-night doubleheader.
Brandon Crawford followed with a two-run double as the Giants ran their winning streak to seven games. San Francisco won the opener 13-7 and had 19 runs and 30 hits in the doubleheader.
Barry Zito (1-1) gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings in his first start since April 16 because of a foot injury.
Brian Wilson got the last three outs for his major-league leading 24th save.
Schierholtz also had a run-scoring single in the second for San Francisco’s first run. Chicago took a 2-1 lead on Lou Montanez’s two-run homer in the third.
Pablo Sandoval’s sacrifice fly knotted the score in the fifth and Eli Whiteside knocked in the final run of the inning with a single.
Chicago’s Aramis Ramirez homered in the ninth off Guillermo Mota.
Cubs starter Rodrigo Lopez (0-2) allowed four runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
