Giants 13, Cubs 7 (1st)
Aaron Rowand and Pat Burrell each drove in three runs as San Francisco cruised to a 13-7 road win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday afternoon in the front end of a doubleheader.
Burrell hit a two-run homer and Miguel Tejada added a solo shot for the Giants, who entered the game with the fewest runs scored in the
major leagues. San Francisco set season highs for runs and hits.
After the Cubs tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning on home runs by Carlos Peña and Koyie Hill, the Giants blew the game open with three runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth. Rowand delivered the big blow when he greeted reliever Chris Carpenter with a three-run double that made it 10-3.
Ryan Vogelsong (6-1) got the win for the Giants despite yielding a season-high six runs in just five innings of work. Vogelsong finished with six strikeouts but walked four in addition to giving up six hits.
Chicago starter Doug Davis (1-7) was tagged for 10 earned runs on 12 hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work.
