Cubs 5, Giants 2 (13)

Geovany Soto’s walk-off three-run homer to left capped a two-out rally and gave the Cubs a 5-2 win over the Giants in 13 innings Thursday afternoon. It was the Cubs' second straight walk-off win.

Pablo Sandoval’s homer had put the Giants on top 2-1 in the top of the 13th, but Darwin Barney tied it with an RBI single, setting the stage for Soto’s dramatic blast.

Sandoval’s shot was the Giants’ first hit since his single in the third inning. It also ended nearly 12 innings of scoreless relief by the Cubs, who lost starter Carlos Zambrano in the second to lower back soreness.

The Cubs trailed 1-0 in the ninth when Aramis Ramirez turned on a Brian Wilson fastball for a solo homer to left. It was the first homer Wilson has allowed in 2011.

Giants starter Matt Cain went seven strong innings, allowing four hits and a walk while fanning six. Lowering his ERA to 3.02, Cain has now given up one earned run over his last 21 innings.

Wilson, MLB’s saves leader, blew his third opportunity in 27 chances.

The Cubs earned a split of the four-game series heading into their weekend showdown with the White Sox.
