Mariners 4, Athletics 0

Rookie Michael Pineda pitched six shutout innings and Adam Kennedy had a two-run single to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Pineda (3-1) allowed five hits and two walks in his fourth consecutive solid start. He struck out five and lowered his ERA to 1.78.

Jack Cust drew a bases-loaded walk and Jack Wilson had an RBI single as the Mariners beat Oakland for the fourth time in five meetings this season.

Oakland loaded the bases with one out in the ninth before Brandon League entered and earned his fifth save by getting Conor Jackson to ground into a game-ending double play.

Kennedy, Wilson and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits apiece for the Mariners.

Kurt Suzuki had two of Oakland’s seven hits.

Oakland’s Tyson Ross (1-2) gave up three runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings while starting in place of injured Dallas Braden, who went on the disabled list with shoulder soreness earlier in the week.
