David DeJesus and Ryan Sweeney had two RBIs apiece and the Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Seattle Mariners with an 8-5 victory on Sunday.
Trevor Cahill (10-13) allowed one run and five hits in five innings to win for the first time since July 27. Oakland won its fourth consecutive game, while Seattle has lost four straight and eight of 10.
DeJesus had a sacrifice fly in the third inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth. Sweeney had a two-run triple during a four-run seventh inning that saw the Athletics build an 8-3 advantage.
Seattle’s Dustin Ackley hit a two-run homer in the seventh to pull the Mariners within a run.
Hideki Matsui doubled three times to pace Oakland’s 10-hit attack and Andrew Bailey pitched the ninth for his 19th save.
Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-5 with an RBI and the Mariners’ star needs 40 hits in the final 23 games to reach 200 hits for the 11th consecutive season.
Cahill had lost four straight decisions and eight of his last nine.
Seattle’s Blake Beavan (3-5) gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings. He also walked a season-high three after issuing just 10 free passes in his first 10 major-league starts.
