Hideki Matsui had two hits, three RBIs and scored three times to support seven strong innings from Guillermo Moscoso as the Oakland Athletics cruised to a 9-2 victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Friday.
Matsui belted a three-run double to the left-center field gap to give Oakland a 3-2 lead in the third and later scored on Brandon Allen’s infield single.
Moscoso (7-8), who had lost his previous two starts, retired the last 13 batters he faced. He gave up five hits, two runs - one earned - and struck out six.
Cliff Pennington added a three-run homer as the Athletics sealed it with a four-run seventh. Pennington has six RBIs in the last two games.
Scott Sizemore, who was 1-for-16 in his previous four games, had two hits and an RBI for Oakland.
Brendan Ryan’s infield single gave Seattle a 2-0 lead in the second. Justin Smoak had two hits for the Mariners, who have lost six of eight.
Seattle starter Jason Vargas (7-13) allowed five runs - four earned - in six innings to lose for the eighth time in nine decisions.
