Padres 6, Rockies 5 (12)
Pinch hitter Yasmani Grandal drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning as visiting San Diego took the opener of the four-game series.
After squandering a three-run lead, the Padres loaded the bases with one out against Manny Corpas (0-1) in the 12th. Grandal hit a high chopper near the line to third baseman Nolan Arenado, who stepped on the bag and made a throw to first that appeared to get Grandal. But as Chase Headley crossed the plate, umpire Ed Hickox called Grandal safe, giving San Diego the lead.
Brad Boxberger recorded the final three outs to notch his first career save and secure the win for Luke Gregerson (4-2), who struck out three in two scoreless innings. Cameron Maybin had two hits and two RBIs for San Diego, which posted its first victory in seven games against Colorado this season.
Wilin Rosario homered and drove in three runs for the Rockies, who began a 10-game homestand after winning two of three at Cincinnati.
Jedd Gyorko and Maybin each drove in and scored a run during San Diego's four-run fourth inning, and the latter delivered an RBI single in the sixth for a 5-2 lead. Rosario single-handedly got Colorado even, delivering an RBI double in the sixth before belting a two-run homer off Dale Thayer with two outs in the eighth.
