Rookie Corey Dickerson recorded three hits and two RBIs while Jorge De La Rosa won for the eighth time in nine decisions at home as Colorado edged San Diego.
De La Rosa (12-6) allowed two runs and eight hits over seven innings, improving to 3-0 in four outings against the Padres this season. Troy Tulowitzki added two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Rockies, who took two of three in the series.
Chris Denorfia and Jesus Guzman each registered two hits and an RBI for San Diego, which finished 2-4 on a short road trip. Padres starter Andrew Cashner (8-7) yielded three runs, six hits and struck out seven over seven innings to suffer the loss despite retiring the last 14 batters he faced.
Dickerson doubled with two outs and scored on Tulowitzki’s two-base hit in the first and Denorfia tied it with a two-out RBI single in the third. Dickerson tripled to the left-center field gap to score Dexter Fowler (two hits, two runs scored) and trotted home on Tulowitzki’s single up the middle as the Rockies edged in front 3-1 in the third.
Guzman singled home a run in the fourth to pull San Diego within a run, but Dickerson gave Colorado insurance with an RBI bloop double in the eighth. Matt Belisle pitched a perfect eighth inning and Rex Brothers got the Padres in order in the ninth for his 11th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado C Yorvit Torrealba keyed a big double play in the sixth with none out and runners at first and third. Torrealba took a throw from third baseman Nolan Arenado after Logan Forsythe’s grounder before tagging out Jedd Gyorko going back to third and diving to tag out Guzman arriving at the base. … The Padres had won six straight games against left-handed starting pitchers before losing to De La Rosa. … San Diego begins a 10-game homestand - its longest of the season - against the New York Mets on Thursday and Colorado starts a 10-game road trip at Baltimore on Friday.
