Tyler Chatwood pitched 6 2/3 solid innings and Wilin Rosario hit a two-run double as Colorado handed host San Diego its 10th straight loss.
Jonathan Herrera and Corey Dickerson added RBIs for the Rockies, who snapped a five-game slide on the road after they were outscored 22-2 in a three-game weekend sweep at Arizona. Chatwood (5-2) rebounded from his worst start of the season by allowing two runs and five hits.
Edinson Volquez (6-7) yielded four runs, eight hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings in falling to 0-3 with an 11.65 ERA in three starts against Colorado.
Rosario gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he knocked in Dickerson and Michael Cuddyer with a drive to deep center. Colorado added two in the sixth as Herrera squeezed home Nolan Arenado and scored two batters later on Dickerson's sacrifice fly.
After Everth Cabrera walked to force in San Diego's first run in the seventh inning, pinch hitter Kyle Blanks followed with an RBI infield hit against reliever Rex Brothers before Chase Headley popped out. Rafael Betancourt retired pinch hitter Mark Kotsay with two aboard in the ninth to earn his 12th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado All-Star OF Carlos Gonzalez did not play after spraining the middle finger on his right hand while swinging in the ninth inning Sunday in Arizona and remains day-to-day. ... Colorado All-Star SS Troy Tulowitzki and CF Dexter Fowler began rehab assignments in Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday and are expected to return to the Rockies' lineup Thursday at Dodger Stadium. ... The Padres are 2-9 against the Rockies this season.
