Blue Jays 3, Rays 1
Ricky Romero pitched eight innings of one-hit ball and Jose Bautista ended a 14-game homerless drought as the Toronto Blue Jays prevailed 3-1 over the host Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
Romero (9-9) fashioned his second sensational outing in a row, allowing only Desmond Jennings' solo home run to right field leading off the sixth. Romero has allowed only one run on five hits over his last 16 1/3 innings.
Jon Rauch worked around a pair of singles in the ninth to secure his 10th save.
Bautista put Toronto ahead in the fourth when he smashed an offering from Rays lefthander David Price (9-10) deep to left. It was his major league-leading 32nd homer of the season, but first since the All-Star break - a span of 42 at-bats.
Yunel Escobar's 10th home run of the year extended the lead in the sixth, and Rajai Davis' RBI double in the seventh restored the two-run edge.
Price was charged with three runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings for his first career loss in 10 starts against Toronto. He is 1-4 in his last seven starts dating back to June 28.
