White Sox 3, Indians 1
Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer and Jake Peavy struck out 11 in seven innings as visiting Chicago ended a five-game losing streak.
Peavy (2-1) allowed one run and five hits and didn’t walk a batter as the White Sox salvaged the finale of the three-game series and won for the first time away from home. Matt Thornton worked the eighth and Addison Reed pitched the ninth for his fourth save.
Michael Bourn went 3-for-4 and hit Peavy’s first pitch of the afternoon over the right-field fence for Cleveland’s lone run.
Adam Dunn drew a two-out walk off Brett Myers (0-2) in the sixth and Konerko followed by launching a deep blast into the left-field bleachers to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead. Alejandro De Aza homered in the eighth off Indians reliever Vinnie Pestano.
Cleveland’s Nick Swisher went 0-for-4 to end a 20-game hitting streak at Progressive Field dating to the 2008 campaign. That matches Michael Young for the longest streak at the ballpark that opened in 1994.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Peavy has struck out 10 or more batters 32 times in his career. … Bourn left in the eighth inning after being spiked by Thornton while diving into first base, while 2B Jason Kipnis (elbow) remained out of the lineup. … Chicago recalled INF Tyler Greene from Triple-A Charlotte and placed INF Angel Sanchez (back) on the disabled list.
