Yankees 13, Orioles 2
The New York Yankees spent another long night in Baltimore, only this time it was to pile on runs not extra frames.
New York followed up a 15-inning victory with a 13-2 blowout win Thursday to improve to 6-0 against the Orioles this season.
Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira combined for seven RBIs and both knocked in runs in the first inning to help build a 5-0 lead off Brad Bergesen (1-5). It was nothing new for the righthander, who was also on the losing end of a 15-3 New York rout last month. Bergesen’s ERA against New York ballooned to 13.50 this season after allowing eight earned runs on just five hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings Thursday.
Things went much smoother for CC Sabathia (4-3), who improved to 16-2 all-time against the Orioles after firing nine strikeouts in eight scoreless innings. The lefty was relieved by Amauri Sanit, who gave up two runs in the ninth to blow the shutout.
Both teams now enter interleague play on the opposite side of three-game streaks. Baltimore remains one of the most manic teams in baseball, taking the Yankees to extras in three contests but getting blown out by double digits in two others.
