Dodgers 7, Giants 5
Matt Kemp belted a two-run homer and Marcus Thames hit a go-ahead triple as the Los Angeles Dodgers recorded a 7-5 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Thames tripled off the glove of Giants right fielder Aubrey Huff to snap a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning as the Dodgers won three of four games in the season-opening series against the 2010 World Series champions.
Hiroki Kuroda (1-0) gave up three runs and six hits in seven innings for Los Angeles. Jonathan Broxton allowed a homer to Aaron Rowand in the ninth before retiring Buster Posey on a grounder with one man on for his third save.
Thames’ hit off Dan Runzler (0-1) was part of a four-run seventh-inning uprising. Aaron Miles added a run-scoring single and scored on Rafael Furcal’s double. Andre Ethier singled in Furcal to make it 7-3.
San Francisco’s Pat Burrell homered to tie the score in the top of the inning prior to Los Angeles’ big inning.
Kemp’s homer followed Jamey Carroll’s RBI-triple and capped a three-run first inning against San Francisco starter Barry Zito.
The Giants struck on Pablo Sandoval’s second-inning homer and pulled within 3-2 in the sixth on Buster Posey’s run-scoring single.
Zito allowed three runs and three hits in six innings.
