Clayton Richard (2-4) allowed three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings to snap a personal four-game losing streak and help San Diego to its third straight win.
Chase Headley went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jason Bartlett had two hits and two RBIs for the resurgent Padres, who have amassed 45 runs in their past five games.
Henry Blanco belted two solo homers and Justin Upton hit one for the Diamondbacks, who fell behind 5-0 after two innings in having its modest two-game winning streak snapped.
Ludwick's two-run blast off Arizona starter Armando Galarraga capped a three-run fifth to build the lead to 8-1. He has three homers and 11 RBIs in his last five games.
Galarraga (3-4) was tagged for eight runs – five earned – and eight hits in five innings.
