Diamondbacks 6, Padres 1
Justin Upton continued his tear with a two-run homer and Joe Saunders threw his sixth career complete game to lead the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.
Upton improved to 15-for-26 with three homers over his last seven games after ripping his 18th homer as the Diamondbacks moved three games behind first-place San Francisco in the National League West.
Saunders (7-8) was one out away from a shutout when he allowed a home run to Jesus Guzman. Saunders scattered six hits.
Arizona’s first two batters in the lineup - Willie Bloomquist and Kelly Johnson - combined to go 6-for-9 with two RBIs.
Dustin Moseley (3-1) allowed five runs - four earned - and struck out five in seven innings. Padres catcher Rob Johnson left the game after injuring his right hand in the seventh.
