Royals 11, Twins 2
Chris Getz tripled and scored the go-ahead run on Mike Aviles’ sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals scored eight runs with two out in the eighth to post a 11-2 rout of the visiting Minnesota Twins on Saturday.
The left-handed hitting Getz led off the seventh with a slicing line drive that Twins left fielder Rene Tosoni failed to corral with a diving attempt. Getz cruised into third and easily scored on Aviles’ flyball to left field.
Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer in the eighth to help send Minnesota to its fifth straight loss. The Twins (9-17) have the worst record in the American League.
Nate Adcock (1-0) got the victory by pitching a scoreless seventh inning as the Royals (14-13) moved back above .500.
Royals starter Sean O’Sullivan gave up two runs – one earned – and two hits in six innings. O’Sullivan walked seven and struck out three.
Twins starter Brian Duensing (2-1) gave up three runs – two earned – and eight hits in seven innings.
