Twins 8, Royals 4

Trevor Plouffe's homer proved to be the game-winner as the Minnesota Twins roared back from an early deficit to secure their 10th win in 13 games with an 8-4 home victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.

Down by three with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Twins got within one on back-to-back RBI doubles by Danny Valencia and Delmon Young. Plouffe followed by driving a 1-2 pitch from Bruce Chen (5-3) over the left-field wall.

Francisco Liriano (6-7) seized the win for Minnesota after allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings.

The Twins added four more runs in the seventh inning, the last two coming home on a base hit by Joe Mauer.

Kansas City got a little closer in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Melky Cabrera.

The Royals jumped out to a two-run lead in the first when Liriano uncorked a wild pitch with the bases loaded and Mauer followed with a throwing error. An RBI single by Brayan Pena in the fourth inning made it 3-0 before Minnesota answered.
