Giants 2, Rockies 1
Andres Torres singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth and Ryan Vogelsong outdueled Jason Hammel as the San Francisco Giants edged the Colorado Rockies, 2-1, on Sunday.
Freddy Sanchez added an RBI single for the Giants, who have won four of their last five. San Francisco allowed a total of four runs in taking two of three from the Rockies over the weekend.
Hammel had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings before Miguel Tejada broke it up with a single. Torres, who had walked in front of Tejada, scored one batter later when Sanchez knotted it at 1-1 with a single to center.
The Giants manufactured the tiebreaker, getting the leadoff man aboard when Pat Burrell drew a walk off Matt Lindstrom (0-1). Emmanuel Burriss came in to pinch run and moved up on a sacrifice before moving to third on a passed ball and coming in on Torres’ single.
That was all Vogelsong (4-1) would need, as the journeyman righthander continued his strong campaign with one run allowed in eight innings.
Brian Wilson worked the ninth for his 17th save.
The Rockies have scored three runs or less in 11 of their last 12 games.
