Mariners 3, Angels 0
The Seattle Mariners touched up Los Angeles Angels starter Jered Weaver for three runs in the first three innings en route to a 3-0 home win on Wednesday behind a strong pitching effort by Jason Vargas.
After starting the season 6-0, Weaver lost his fourth straight start by allowing seven hits in six innings.
Los Angeles' offense had no answer for Vargas, who pitched seven strong frames and permitted four hits while striking out nine to win his third start in his last four appearances. Seattle's Brandon League pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the win and notch his 10th save of the season.
The Mariners jumped on Weaver early, pushing across three runs in the first three innings behind Jack Cust, who finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Cust, who had been hitting just .143 in Seattle, lined RBI singles in the first and third innings to spark Seattle, which had lost seven of its previous eight games.
