Torii Hunter belted a three-run homer and Howie Kendrick hit a solo shot as the Los Angeles Angels held on for a 4-3 road victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
Vernon Wells recorded two hits for the Angels, who remained 3 1/2 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West.
Hunter gave Los Angeles a 3-0 advantage in the opening inning with his 19th home run of the season. Kendrick increased the lead in the third with a two-out blast off Charlie Furbush (3-7), who allowed four runs in six innings en route to his fourth loss in five starts.
Ervin Santana (11-9) posted his eighth win in nine decisions as he yielded three runs over 6 2/3 frames. Santana, who walked a season-high seven, had his streak of starts with at least seven innings pitched snapped at eight.
Jordan Walden worked a perfect ninth for his 27th save in 36 opportunities.
Dustin Ackley hit a two-run single and Ichiro Suzuki notched two hits and an RBI for Seattle, which has lost five of seven.
Angels shortstop Maicer Izturis, who was hit by a pitch in the first inning, left the game after 2 1/2 frames with a leg injury.
