Angels 7, Mariners 3
Mark Trumbo homered and had three RBIs and the Los Angeles Angels moved within 2 1/2 games of first-place Texas in the American League West with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Monday.
Vernon Wells also homered and Torii Hunter had two RBIs as Los Angeles won its third straight contest while picking up a game on the Rangers, who lost to Tampa Bay earlier Monday.
Dan Haren (14-8) gave up three runs in six innings while breaking a two-game losing streak. Haren gave up 10 hits but didn’t walk a batter for the 12th time in 30 starts.
Seattle has lost five straight games and nine of its last 11.
Hunter tripled in a run in the first inning and Trumbo followed with a two-run homer off Anthony Vasquez (1-2) to give the Angels a 3-1 lead. Trumbo added a run-scoring double in the third to give Los Angeles a 6-2 advantage.
Brendan Ryan homered and Justin Smoak and Josh Bard had run-scoring singles for Seattle, which committed a season-high five errors.
Vasquez gave up seven runs (six earned) and six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
