Twins 1, White Sox 0

Francisco Liriano put a nightmarish April behind him by tossing the first no-hitter of the 2011 season, leading Minnesota to a 1-0 road win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday evening.

Liriano (2-4), who sported an ERA of 9.13 coming into the night, walked six batters but still managed his first complete game in 90 career starts while becoming the first Twins pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Eric Milton shut down Anaheim on Sept. 11, 1999.

It was the seventh no-hitter in Washington Senators-Minnesota Twins franchise history.

Liriano's 123rd pitch resulted in a line drive by Adam Dunn right at shortstop Matt Tolbert, which touched off a celebration in the middle of the diamond.

White Sox starter Edwin Jackson (2-4) broke out of a recent slump with eight strong innings, allowing just six hits and a walk, but he wound up taking the loss after Jason Kubel hit a solo home run to right field with one out in the fourth inning.

Chicago's best chance to crack Liriano came in the bottom of the fourth, when he allowed a pair of walks before getting Carlos Quentin to fly out to center field.

Three of the five White Sox baserunners were erased on double plays, including one in the eighth inning where Gordon Beckham appeared to elude the tag of Minnesota first baseman Justin Morneau.
