Twins 1, White Sox 0
Nick Blackburn tossed eight shutout innings, outdueling Mark Buehrle as Minnesota posted a 1-0 home victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday afternoon. The win was the 11th in the last 13 games for the Twins.
Blackburn (6-4) struck out just one but kept the White Sox off the scoreboard while scattering seven hits and a walk. The righthander allowed Chicago baserunners to reach third base in the second and sixth innings and was helped by a pair of double plays.
Michael Cuddyer, who had two of the Twins' four hits, provided the only offense for either side when he led off the second inning with his 10th homer of the season, a shot to left-center field against Buehrle (6-5), who was tagged with the loss despite allowing just three hits in seven innings. The Chicago starter struck out three and walked two.
Matt Capps worked the ninth inning for his ninth save of the year. He had blown three of his last four opportunities dating back to May 21.
