Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 3
Nathan Eovaldi struck out seven in five innings in his major-league debut to help the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the host Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 on Saturday.
Rod Barajas had three hits and two RBIs as Los Angeles beat Arizona for the second straight night.
Eovaldi (1-0) gave up two runs and four hits after being recalled from Double A Chattanooga. The runs crossed on a two-run single in the second by Arizona pitcher Joe Saunders.
Arizona, which has lost three straight, pulled within two on Justin Upton’s eighth-inning double before Chris Young flied out to deep left to end the inning.
Scott Elbert worked the ninth for his second save.
Los Angeles took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a single by Aaron Miles. Barajas added a run-scoring single later in the inning.
Barajas also had an RBI single in the second and Andre Ethier’s third-inning infield out also drove in a run.
Saunders (8-9) gave up four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
