Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 4 (10)

Javy Guerra walked Chris Young with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

Guerra (2-1) walked Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases before he walked Young as the Diamondbacks lowered their magic number to clinch the National League West to six.

Micah Owings (7-0) earned the win and J.J. Putz worked a scoreless 10th inning to earn his 40th save and second in as many games.

Arizona, which has won 18 of its last 21 games, remained even with Milwaukee in the race for home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

After Miguel Montero tied his career high with his 16th homer in the first to give Arizona a two-run lead, Los Angeles answered with four runs off Ian Kennedy in the bottom half.

The four runs were one more than Kennedy had allowed in his past four starts combined.

Kennedy, who was 11-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his previous 12 starts, fell short in his bid to become the National League’s first 20-game winner.

The Dodgers, who had three hits after the first inning, dropped to 8-2 in extra-inning games this season.

Both benches were warned after Gerardo Parra admired his game-tying home run off Hong-Chih Kuo in the seventh inning. Parra took exception to a pitch near his head earlier in the at-bat.
