Padres 3, Giants 1

Native San Diegan Aaron Harang allowed one run in six innings and San Diego defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in the Padres’ home opener on Tuesday.

Harang (1-0) allowed six hits and struck out six, and Heath Bell earned his second save with a scoreless ninth inning.

San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner (0-1), who allowed only 2.1 walks per nine innings as a rookie last year, walked three in one inning on Tuesday.

After cruising through the first two innings, Bumgarner failed to make it past the third after Nick Hundley opened with a single, Harang sacrificed, Jason Bartlett walked and Orlando Hudson singled to load the bases.

Jorge Cantu’s sacrifice fly evened the score at one before Ryan Ludwick and Chase Headley drew back-to-back walks to make it 2-1. Chris Denorfia capped the uprising with an infield hit.

San Francisco scored when Aubrey Huff's groundout plated Andres Torres in the first inning.
