Giants 2, Padres 1
Carlos Beltran homered for the first time with his new team and Tim Lincecum allowed one run over eight innings to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 2-1 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
Lincecum (12-10) gave up four hits, five walks and struck out seven for the Giants, who remained two games behind Arizona in the National League West.
Santiago Casilla pitched a perfect ninth for his first save in relief of Lincecum, who threw 124 pitches. Lincecum has allowed one run or fewer in eight of his last nine starts.
Beltran’s fourth-inning blast was his first home run in 13 games since joining the Giants, and first in 31 career games at AT&T Park.
The Giants added an insurance run in the fifth when Lincecum singled in a run against Tim Stauffer (8-10). He entered the game with four hits in 46 at-bats.
San Francisco, which snapped San Diego’s season-high five-game winning streak, won for only the eighth time in their last 25 games.
