Padres 11, Giants 3
Jesus Guzman and Orlando Hudson each hit three-run homers, and the San Diego Padres broke a season-worst seven-game losing streak with a 11-3 rout of the visiting San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.
Guzman’s homer in the first and Hudson’s blast in the third - both off Barry Zito (3-2) - propelled the Padres to their highest-scoring game since an 11-run outburst against Atlanta on June 24. San Diego had scored five runs in its past six games.
Cory Luebke (3-3) allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings in his fourth straight strong start. Luebke struck out five and walked one as the Padres ended San Francisco’s four-game winning streak.
Guzman, a former Giant, had a career-high four RBIs. He had a run-scoring single in the third prior to Hudson’s homer.
Rob Johnson had a two-run single during a three-run seventh that boosted San Diego’s lead to 11-2.
Jason Bartlett had three hits and scored three times for the Padres.
Zito was torched for eight runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings as he fell to 4-9 against the Padres.
San Francisco’s runs came on Cody Ross’ sacrifice fly in the fourth, Miguel Tejada’s homer in the sixth and Mike Fontenot’s double in the ninth.
