Giants 3, Padres 2 (12)
Mark DeRosa's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Cody Ross led off the 12th with a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Brad Brach (0-2). After a one-out intentional walk to Carlos Beltran and a fielder's choice by Pablo Sandoval, DeRosa ripped a 1-2 fastball off the glove of leaping second baseman Orlando Hudson to plate Ross.
Ramon Ramirez (3-3), the sixth Giants pitcher, retired the side in order in the top of the 12th.
San Francisco starter Matt Cain left with a 2-0 lead after 6 1/3 innings, but that cushion was erased when Jason Bartlett greeted reliever Guillermo Mota with a two-out, two-run double.
Cain allowed four hits and struck out six. San Diego starter Cory Luebke scattered 10 hits over six innings and struck out eight.
San Francisco remained 6 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the National League wild card standings and 8 1/2 behind Arizona in the NL West with 14 games to play.
